ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)
ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) is not a new health problem nor is it a disorder or a mental health problem. It is a condition that affects children and some adults and eventually sorts itself out in most cases. If anything, it is a psychological behavioral disorder that affects children and adolescents mainly.
Several pieces of research about the condition indicate that this problem has been prevalent for several centuries. It is a condition that is today gaining recognition in the medical field. Many scientists contend that ADHD is due to a problem with the production of dopamine in the frontal lobe of the brain.
There are several tell-tale signs of ADHD in children:
- Children or youth with this problem seem to be in a hurry always and are highly active. It seems like they operate on a never-stopping motor.
- People with this disorder often seem restless.
- Involuntary movement of hands or feet, nervousness, and squirming.
- Not sleeping adequately and they get up frequently to walk or run around or climb something.
- Excessive talking and a high rate of speech,
- Cannot involve themselves in activities that require focus or silence around them.
- Can never take orders or follow patterns of discipline.
- They do not like social activities and mingle with others that they do not know.
- In youth, this condition is related to the act of taking rash and unreasonable decisions.
- Poor decision-making skills and lack of social skills in general.
Further research on ADHD:
There are different variations of ADHD as per doctors. Some them are described below:
Hyperactive and impulsive: This is perhaps the easiest of all other conditions to diagnose. It can be recognized very easily among patients. Most of the symptoms are manifested behaviourally and in environments where these children or youth interact. Most of the decisions that they make lack rationale.
Hyperactive and destructive: This condition is difficult to deal with and parents who visit psychologists are often frustrated, angry and fed up. Children or youth with this disorder can be very destructive and cannot be controlled. They find it difficult to adjust in schools and public places. It is more common among boys as compared to girls.
These are the two largest variations that one can find in ADHD children; however modern medicine does have some remedies in the form of alternative cure for such children. Psychological counseling and constant therapy can do a lot of good for such children. Adderall is often the drug of choice for children and teens with high degree of ADHD.
Alternative therapies
One thing that most parents and other people involved with people who have ADHD realize is that it is not the attention deficit that is causing their behavior. These children are just unique, have different learning needs, and immense energy that is not being consumed. Their needs are just different and people around them have to realize this. Hence, alternate therapies could prove to be beneficial along with medications, like Adderall.
Conclusion
ADHD is not a disease nor is it life-threatening. However, people managing such children and youth have to be organized and patient to deal with them. In fact, they are very creative and much more intelligent than average people. They just have to be taught to focus and divert their energies in a positive manner.
